The Oka-principle for mappings between Riemann surfaces.

Abstract.

In this article we determine completely for which pairs of Riemann surfaces X,Y the following statement is true:

Let f:X -> Y be a continuous map. Then there exists a holomorphic map F:X -> Y which is homotopic to f (as a continuous map).
